If we allow the Amazon and all other tropical forests to be destroyed… that not only affect all indigenous peoples, but it will also affect everyone because of climate change.

STORY

Tropical dry forests are indeed important #ecosystems in Latin America, providing vital ecological services such as #carbon sequestration, #soil conservation, #water regulation, and habitat for #biodiversity. These ecosystems are particularly important in #Panama's Azuero Peninsula, where they have been subject to extensive #agricultural and cattle ranching practices that have led to deforestation and degradation.
The six-day program focuses on tropical dry #forest ecology and allows participants to deepen their understanding of this ecosystem. The program also covers forest restoration and conservation strategies, particularly in landscapes impacted by human activity.

STORY

Convincing scientists to recognize the validity of Indigenous knowledge can feel like an uphill battle. Many are deeply conditioned to trust only conventional methods of validation, such as quantitative data presented through graphs or equations. This skepticism often makes it challenging to accept theories verified through alternative frameworks. Furthermore, the prevailing belief that science holds an exclusive claim to truth leaves little room for meaningful engagement with other.

This review examines researchers' engagement with local and Indigenous knowledge (L/IK), identifying the specific aspects of this knowledge that have been studied and highlighting existing gaps. By outlining best practices, it advocates for deeper integration of L/IK into mangrove research, aiming to support more effective and sustainable restoration initiatives. Many mangrove restoration projects have failed when local expertise importance of integrating L/IK for meaningful and lasting restoration outcomes. For conservation and rehabilitation of mangrove ecosystems, community participation is vital in the planning, execution, and monitoring stages, fostering a sense of accountability for the program’s long-term success.
