Programs

Efforts to initiate discussions and share knowledge, information, and experiences creatively are much more visually appealing than a white paper.

Current assignment:

Teaching 25% | Research 25% | Social Work 50%

My teaching program is focused on: 1) mentoring communities, and farmers 2) teaching youth (graduate, undergraduate students, and postgraduate) in open classroom settings, and 3) consulting ground level NGOs on sustainable farming with forest restoration programs.

My research activity is focused on: the ecology, conservation and management of trees and crops in landscapes containing both natural and managed ecosystems. Research themes include: design of sustainable landscapes to promote ecosystem services, invasive species ecology and management, and conservation/restoration of rare species and communities.

Current areas of outreach include; the biodiversity implications of bioenergy landscapes, Madhuca longifolia, banyan, and tropical forest restoration, the use of native plants to enhance ecosystem services, and conservation of the butterfly, bees, earthworms, dung Beatle, various insects, and microbes.

Resilient Landscape Designing

2 Days

I evaluate the current status of landscape design, ranging from fundamental ecological principles to resulting guidelines and socioeconomic tools. While research gaps remain, the time is right for ecologists to engage with other disciplines, stakeholders, and policymakers in education and advocacy to foster agricultural landscape design for sustainable and resilient biodiversity services.

Terrace Gardening

2 Days

Urbanization is great, but who has a plan for environmentally sustainable urban spaces: Successful management of urban growth, integration of green spaces, wetlands, sustained organic food supply, proper waste management, energy management, controlling air pollution, better environment, and biodiversity around. Adding a layer of vegetation to rooftops and creating green roofs has proven to reduce the urban heat island effect and influences by causing a positive impact on reducing rainwater runoff. This discussion undertaken from a planner’s perspective addressing the various interests of many city dwellers.

Nursery Designing

2 Days

A good grower must-have skills that can be acquired through innate ability, skills and experience. Collectively these special skills are what commonly known as "a green Thumb"

If you have several restoration projects or even one large one extending over several years, you may choose to set up a community nursery or even grow your own plants.

Silver-Pasture system

2 Days

The goal is to add trees without blocking too much light from hitting the ground, which could suppress forage growth. Trees can be planted in rows, clusters, or evenly spaced in an orchard-like planting. Fast growing species such as locust, alder, willow, Neem, ficus and poplar offer an advantage because they can quickly grow above browse height, which allows for faster integration with grazing management.

Natural Fertilizer & Pesticide Making

2 Days

As a key component of agricultural sustainability, organic fertilizer contributes greatly to improving soil fertility.  the idea of organic farming was acceptable to develop an organic agriculture system. The use of organic fertilizers has advantage of being cheap, improving soil structure, texture and aeration increasing the soils water retention abilities and stimulating healthy root development.

Soil Regeneration techniques

2 Days

The loss of the world’s fertile soil and biodiversity, along with the loss of indigenous seeds and knowledge, pose a mortal threat to our future survival. According to soil scientists, at current rates of soil destruction (i.e., decarbonization, erosion, desertification, chemical pollution), within 50 years we will not only suffer serious damage to public health due to a qualitatively degraded food supply characterized by diminished nutrition and loss of important trace minerals, but we will literally no longer have enough arable topsoil to feed ourselves. Discussions include how holistic manage farm land practice that leverages the power of photosynthesis in plants to close the carbon cycle, and build soil health, crop resilience and nutrient density.

Mushroom farming techniques

2 Days

With increasing population, food demand problems in developing and underdeveloped countries, mushrooms can play an important role to enrich the human diet, particularly in India where a large section of the population are vegetarians. It is an ideal means of recycling agro-wastes which are available abundantly. Mushrooms are popular for their delicacy and flavor. They are excellent sources of vitamins, proteins, and minerals. They are a good source of Vitamin ‘B’, folic acid, the blood-building vitamin, useful in anaemic conditions.

Multi layer vegetable gardening

2 Days

Multilayer farming can be defined as an integrated agricultural system in which different types of crops (4-5) are planted on the same land simultaneously, which matures at different heights and at different times. It is a type of intercropping which is a growing trend these days. For example, Multilayer vegetable cultivation in the village is an excellent example of judicious utilization of soil and water resources to take full advantage of limited land resources.

Silviculture techniques

2 Days

There has been increased public awareness towards raising plantation of tree species including management of soil and water conservation. Public concern regarding raising of plantations may have shifted from the extraction of timber for earning money, to the preservation of additional forest resources, including wildlife and old growth forest, protecting biodiversity, watershed management and recreation. Increased environmental awareness may contribute to an increased public mistrust of silvicultural professionals. But it can also lead to greater understanding about what professionals do for forests for nature conservation and ecological services.

SUSTAINABLE FARMING WITH FOREST RESTORATION

6, 12 and 24 days

Sustainable Agriculture Program's primary focus is undoubtedly on environmental, social, and economic sustainability. And a lot of the information is on what and how the right technology can make agriculture more sustainable and biodiverse.

The future may lie in a greater diversity of those choosing a career in farming. Organizations representing LGBTQ farmers (Cultivating Change), minorities in agriculture (MANRRS), and young farmers (National Young Farmers Coalition) are seeking to bring more young people into sustainable agriculture. In my opinion, "It's not about how to get kids back to the basics of sustainable farming, we need others to get to the farms with the change of fundamental that has conditioned (through conventional education) our efforts to satisfy our greed and provoke deforestation (open farms) and eliminate other species with huge chemicalization and negative energies." The focus is to introduce clean energy to the farming system and make sure that if it leaves the system, it's clean.
